When you’re trying to save money, they say to pay yourself first. If you are trying to start a savings account and keep money in it, money experts always tell you to put the money away first before you pay any other bills. That way, you take care of your responsibilities, but at the same time, and before anything else, you are making your savings a priority.
The same can be said for self-love. We can’t pour from an empty cup. If you don’t take care of yourself first, it will be hard to give your best to anyone else. And that includes children, significant others, friends, and family.
We have a theme going on over here at EH Social Events. This Valentine’s Day, we’re promoting all kinds of love. We (obviously) love weddings (and planning them), we also love the single ladies (have you seen our Divorce Tee?), and we recently talked about taking time to celebrate the friends that show you love (Galentine’s Day was fun!). BUT, now, we want to highlight the love you have for yourself, regardless if you’re status is married, single, or it’s complicated.
Here are three ways you can LOVE YOURSELF, before anyone else, this Valentine’s Day.
Write Yourself a Love Letter –
There is this Love Yourself Guru named Lisa Nichols (if you don’t know of her google her and you’ll find some good stuff!) and I was reading something that she wrote that said, Write yourself a love letter. The same way that you would write it for a significant other, tell yourself everything you love about YOU. If this sounds cheesy to you, then don’t do it. But it can be pretty powerful if you try it!
Find Something That You Love To Do, Do It Often!
Everyone has something that they really enjoy. Something that if you let them, the hours can go by and they wouldn’t check the time. Something that they would do for free because they love it so much. If you don’t know what that is, think back to when you were a little kid. The roots of what you love to do are usually there. Maybe it’s dancing, singing, cooking, running, reading, listening to music, whatever it is, you have to find a way to do it as much as you can!
Spend Time Alone
Everyone is so busy these days that it can sometimes be difficult to get a moment alone. But sitting down with yourself to get your mind quiet and listen to YOURSELF and your needs is important. Think about your day and dump all of the negativity that may have happened, then sit and be grateful for all of the amazing things in your life.
Which one of these will you give YOURSELF this Valentine’s Day?
